Avian Flu & Ebola In The News
Even as reports of human-to-human spread of the HN51 Avian flu are being examined, authorities are also investigating a possible case of viral hemoragic fever in a woman who became ill on a flight to London. The passenger became extremely ill on the flight, was rushed to a nearby hospital upon landing, and later died. The large amount of air travel around the world has long concerned those tasked with preparing for public health crises, since even relatively innocuous diseases such as mumps can be spread through air travel as demonstrated in the spread of the Iowa mumps outbreak earlier this year.
